The Molewood Meadows

The Molewood Meadows is a beautiful new space we have opened in the orchard: Two of the open spaces within the orchard (formerly a health and safety hazard of tree stumps and hidden holes) have been plowed and flattened and planted with fresh grass. It is an idyllic space to relax and rest from the exertion of your apple picking!

To begin with, the meadows were blocks of trees that had been removed; a lot had been carted away for firewood, but there were still huge piles of stumps, and extremely messy ground, full of holes and ruts.

These piles of stumps were really hard to get rid of... so we had to burn them. It was huge.
It took a long time and a lot of work but we got there in the end - the stumps burnt out and we were able to grade and level the ground.
Once the meadows had been cleared of stumps, and graded flat, we were able to sow some grass seed and prepare them to become welcoming grassy spaces in the orchard.
There was plenty of moisture in the soil because of how wet it has been in recent periods, so with recent sunny weather the grass has begun to grow very nicely.
And here you have them - the beautiful Molewood Meadows ;) Lush open grass, good for picnics, a game of frisbee, cricket, or just hanging about. We hope you come and enjoy it with us this Pick Your Own season!
